Restylane Filler
Restylane is a FDA-approved dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid gel, not derived from an animal source. Dermal fillers immediately enhance lip contour lines and fill crease areas. A Restylane treatment is long lasting, but not permanent. The duration effect depends on a number of factors, including age, skin-type, muscle activity, and injection technique.
Restylane® and Perlane® are approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). You may also know that Restylane is the world's most used, most studied cosmetic dermal filler, and has been used in over 70 countries and in more than 1.4 million treatments in the U.S.
Restylane and Perlane are made of hyaluronic acid. In the human body, natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. The hydrophilic or "water loving" nature of the hyaluronic acid molecules in Restylane and Perlane and their three dimensional structure allows them to bind many times their own weight in water. As hyaluronic acid begins to degrade, each molecule binds to more water which helps maintain its volume for about twelve months.
Restylane and Perlane contain no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions. No allergy testing is required before use. Restylane and Perlane contain trace amounts of gram-positive bacterial proteins and are contraindicated for patients with a history of allergies to such material.
Saftey considerations for Restylane
Restylane® restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than five days. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. If you have had facial cold sores before, an injection can cause another outbreak. To avoid bruising or bleeding, you should not use Restylane if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you should not use Restylane.
The use of Restylane® at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. Use of Restylane in these instances could delay healing or make your skin problems worse.
